Domaine Henri Gouges - Nuits Saint Georges - Village 2021
Domaine Henri Gouges is located in the town of Nuits-Saint-Georges , in Burgundy . The estate was founded in 1919 by Henri Gouges and continues to be owned and operated by the Gouges family. He was among the first producers to reject the Burgundian trading system then considered corrupt. Instead, starting in the 1920s, Henri Gouges devoted himself to bottling at the property, a rare practice at the time. In the 1930s, when Burgundian appellations were first designated, he successfully led a campaign against the designation of the vineyards of Nuits-Saint-Georges as Grands Crus while he was both mayor of the village and designated member of the INAO. Today, the vineyards of Domaine Henri Gouges cover 14.5 hectares including plots spread over seven sites classified Premier Cru . Almost all wines are made from Pinot Noir , but a limited amount of white wines are also produced.
Nuits-Saint-Georges Village is made with Pinot Noir from 7 plots : Les Plateau, Les Crots, Les Belles Croix, Les Fleurières, Les Brûlées and Les Chaliots. The majority of these plots are located south of Nuits-Saint-Georges, on a hillside with deep soils, on a mixture of clay, alluvium and limestone pebbles. Only Les Crots is located at the top of the hill on fine brown limestone soil. This wine requires a few years before tasting to fully benefit from its potential.
Grape variety: 100% Pinot Noir
