Château La Negly - La Porte du Ciel 2021
Château la Négly is located in Occitanie , facing the Mediterranean, in the La Clape massif. In the 18th century, the Château was named Ancely. It was in 1781 that the property took the name Nerly and was finally called La Négly in 1807 and later obtained the name Château. Several families have succeeded one another at the head of the estate. The Paux-Rosset family will definitively direct the vineyard towards qualitative production. The cultivation method is modified and the vines are completely re-planted. The neighboring Boède estate is leased. With the help of consulting oenologist Mr. Claude Gros, winemaking will be completely redesigned. Together, they bought the Boède estate in 2006 with a third partner, Alain Wittner. Today, Bastien Paux-Rosset, responsible for cultivation, operates these re-planted vineyards which extend over 75 hectares (the vineyard extends over 50 hectares and that of Boède over 25 hectares). Ideally exposed, the terroirs of Négly and Boède are distinguished by the diversity of their soils. In order to better promote these, Syrah, Grenache and Mourvèdre have replaced Aramon, Terret and white Carignan. The vineyard is managed using sustainable agriculture .
La Porte du Ciel is a blend predominantly of Syrah , supplemented with old Grenache vines planted around thirty years ago. La Porte du Ciel is a 3.2 hectare plot located near the Château de la Négly, on stony soil with a gentle slope plunging towards the sea. The plot is harvested manually when ripe, then sorted twice. The grapes macerate in a truncated cone-shaped new wooden vat for 45 days. The wine is then transferred to new French oak barrels for aging on lees for 24 months .
