Château La Serre is composed mainly of Merlot , supplemented with Cabernet Franc . The wine is aged for 13 to 15 months in oak barrels, approximately 50% of which are new. The 1990 vintage in Bordeaux has a legendary reputation. The winter was mild and turned into a cool spring with temperatures not warming until May. The months of July and August broke heat records. Rains in late August and early September brought welcome relief and conditions for the remainder of the month were cool and clear, ideal for an early harvest.
