Château LA TOUR DE MONS 1985
Château La Tour de Mons is located in Soussans, in the Margaux appellation in the Bordeaux wine region. Its history dates back to 1098 but was successful under the ownership of Pierre de Mons in 1623. After being sold to Crédit Agricole Grands Crus, it is today the Perrodo family (owner of Château Labégorce Margaux and Marquis d'Alesme ) who owns the domain. It is managed by Marjolaine Maurice de Coninck , general director and oenologist, assisted by the advice of oenologist Claude Gros. The vineyard extends over 58 hectares in one piece. The average age of the vines is 40 years. In recent years, a major renovation program has been implemented: construction of a new wine cellar and an air-conditioned storage cellar, a major drainage program, reasoned management of the vineyard with a view to sustainable ecological balance.
Château La Tour de Mons is a blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc . Aging lasts 12 months in French oak barrels , 30% of which are new. The 1985 vintage for Bordeaux was absolutely remarkable. The spring was cold and wet marked by a few storms. Heavy hail caused some damage in May and June, but warm weather followed at flowering time. July remained warm and saw some precipitation while August, although cooler, saw very little rain. The month of September was both hot and dry, ideal for ripening.
