The Threshold of Mazeyres 2020
Château Mazeyres is located in the Pomerol appellation, in the Bordeaux wine region. It was acquired in the early 20th century by the Querre family, who produced a fine, fruity wine designed for French restaurant customers. In 1988, the family decided to sell the entire estate to the Caisse de Retraite de la Société Générale, which then sold it to Sogecap (the life insurance branch of the same banking institution) in 2010. In 1992, the viticultural engineer and oenologist Alain Moueix took over the management of Château Mazeyres. The fourth generation of a renowned family of Libourne winegrowers and merchants, he offered the château his commitment, knowledge and know-how. The vineyard area was considerably increased and a reflection was carried out on the approaches to viticulture, winemaking and maturing, leading to a modernization of the facilities. The acquisition of four additional hectares in the heart of the Pomerol appellation in 2010 brings the total surface area of the estate to 25.5 hectares, cultivated biodynamically since 2012 and certified since 2018.
Seuil de Mazeyres is the Château's second wine. The 2020 is a blend of Merlot (90%) and Cabernet Franc (10%) harvested by hand in crates. The grapes are carefully sorted upon arrival at the winery. Fermentation is carried out in concrete or stainless steel vats depending on the terroir, the age of the vine and the grape variety. The wine is aged in barrels (50%) and vats (50%) .
