SINE QUA NON - Distenta III - Grenache 2021
Sine Qua Non is located in California , just north of Los Angeles in Ventura County , with several vineyards in Santa Barbara while the main vineyard and winery are based in Oak View . Sine Qua Non's first vintage was in 1994. , when Austrian-born winemaker Manfred Krankl released three barrels of Syrah named "Queen of Spades" with a label he had designed himself. Krankl sent a bottle to Robert Parker, who promptly gave the wine 95 points. The brand run by Manfred Krankl and his wife Elaine has achieved cult status since its inception; small volumes mean that demand consistently outstrips supply.
Distenta Grenache III is mainly composed of Grenache (79%), accompanied by Syrah (8.4%), Mourvèdre (7.4%), Petite Sirah (3.2%), Petit Manseng (1.6%) and Muscat (0.4%) . The grapes come from three vineyards; Eleven Confessions (71%), The Third Twin Estate Vineyard (23%) and Cumulus (6%). 35% of the grapes are whole cluster fermented. The wine has was aged for 23 months in French oak barrels , 42% of which are new.
