Château Couhins - The Young Ladies of Couhins - Red 2019
Château Couhins is located in Pessac-Léognan , in the Bordeaux wine region. The history of the estate dates back to the 17th century, when Couhins and what would become Château Carbonnieux were part of a single large estate south of Bordeaux. From the mid- 18th century until the aftermath of the 1955 Graves classification (ratified in 1959), the estate was held by numerous owners until the late 1960s when the owners, the Gasqueton family, began the process of selling the estate. At this point, André Lurton (who would go on to create the commercial estate Vignobles André Lurton) had entered into a lease agreement for the vineyard, of which little remained. In 1968, the château buildings were sold and the vineyard was purchased by INRA ( Institut National de la Recherche Agronomique ) who maintained the lease with Lurton. In 1978, the lease expired and Lurton transferred the vines to INRA. The acquisition of the property by this organization was aimed at meeting the needs expressed by all the departments of the Bordeaux research center and to have experimental sites close to the research laboratories. When he took over the management of the property in April 1999, Dominique Forget imposed an avant-garde vision on the absolute necessity of developing precise, sustainable viticulture that respects people and the environment. Since 2022, the vineyard has been certified in organic farming .
