Domaine Paul Prieur - Pieuchaud Silex 2022
Domaine Paul Prieur is located in Verdigny, in the heart of the Sancerre appellation in the Loire Valley. The family estate has been managed by Luc Prieur since 2012, representing the 11th generation. The 14.5-hectare Sauvignon Blanc vineyard is concentrated on the limestone terroirs of Verdigny and Chavignol (Caillottes and Terres Blanches), as well as on the Silex terroirs of the village of Thauvenay. The red wines come from the 5-hectare lieu-dit "Les Pichons", planted using mass selection in the 1950s. The vineyard has been certified organic since 2022 .
The Pieuchaud cuvée is made from Sauvignon Blanc grown in the same-named place in the village of Thauvenay, whose terroir is composed of clay and flint. Harvesting is done by hand; no sulfur is added before fermentation. The grapes are pressed and then settled to allow aging on total lees, without stirring. Aging lasts 15 months , in 16-hectoliter wooden vats (80%) and in 600-liter tons (20%).
Grape variety: 100% Sauvignon Blanc
