Château CASTERA 2016
Château Castera is located in Saint-Germain-d'Esteuil, in the northern part of Saint-Estèphe in the Bordeaux wine region. The château was awarded Cru Bourgeois status in the first classification in 1932. After Dieter Tondera retired in 2010, Thomas C. Press, son of Carl E. Press, took over the estate. The château owns 63 hectares, with an average age of 27 years, the oldest plot having been planted in 1930. In recent years, the château team has been moving towards more rational agriculture . At Château Castera, this has resulted in grassing in the rows, limiting the use of pesticides, leaving old plots fallow, plowing under the cavaillon, and treating wine and winemaking effluents.
Château Castera 2016 is a blend of Merlot (65%), Cabernet Sauvignon (25%), Cabernet Franc (5%) and Petit Verdot (5%) . The grapes are rigorously sorted and the vinification is traditional with vatting for 18 to 22 days and daily pumping over. The wine is aged in French oak barrels for 12 months , bottled on the property and then stored in the cellars for 24 months before being marketed.
