Domaine de La Dourbie - Mala Coste - White 2023
Domaine de la Dourbie is located in Canet, in the Hérault region of Languedoc . The estate has existed since 1781 but was bought in 2003 by Emmanuel Serin . Over time, he invested in other plots, notably the Rouveyrolles valley and the hillsides of Aspiran. Today, the vineyard consists of 20 hectares around the estate, 1.8 hectares in the setting of the black basalt tuff soils that cover the slopes of an extinct volcano, and 12 hectares at an altitude of 300 meters in the Rouveyrolles valley. The vineyard has been certified organic since 2012. The estate includes a century-old landscaped park, generously flowered. The grassing of the plots is an important source of organic matter, which provides a structuring and protective role. The installation of beehives near the vines also contributes to the quality of biodiversity.
Mala Coste comes from the eponymous place which is the signature of the estate. Mala Coste Blanc is a blend of Roussanne (35%), Grenache Blanc (35%) and Terret Blanc (30%) whose vines vary in age between 50 and 80 years. They are cultivated at an altitude of 350 meters in barely garrigue. The vineyard benefits from a micro-climate benefiting from a northwest exposure and a clay-limestone soil. Vinification is carried out in vats, new barrels, one-wine barrels and ovoid vats. The wine is aged for 10 months in new barrels (50%), one-wine barrels (25%), ovoid sandstone vats (15%) and stainless steel vats (10%) .
