Domaine Saint Préfert - Châteauneuf du Pape rouge 1990
The history of Saint Préfert begins more than a century ago, in 1920. A great connoisseur of wines, Fernand Serre, pharmacist in Avignon, one day discovered a district of Chateauneuf du Pape, “Le quartier des Serres”. As a great lover of wines and an apothecary, he acquired more than 80 hectares in this district located on the south side of the village with a secret desire: to become a winemaker. Fernand Serre had already pierced the mystery of plants, he would pierce that of grapes! He built a cellar and a house in the center of the vineyards and learned very quickly the methods of cultivation and winemaking. Vines, fermentation, temperature control…
Domaine Saint Préfert was born in the village of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, in the district of Petites Serres. An excellent winemaker, Fernand Serre is one of the precursors in the events that have built the reputation of this appellation. Saint Préfert was one of the first Châteauneuf du Pape estates to market its bottled wine in the 1930s and to conquer distant markets such as the United States.
At his death, Fernand will pass on all his expertise to his son Camille who will give him in turn to Suzanne, his wife. In 2002, Suzanne Serre will hand over the keys of Saint Préfert to Isabel Ferrando.
The current grape variety is 85% Grenache, 5% Syrah, 5% Mourvèdre and 5% Cinsault
