PAVILLON ROUGE DU Château MARGAUX 2017
Sold under the name "Château Margaux 2ème vin" ("Second Wine of Château Margaux"), it took its current name of “Château Margaux's Pavillon Rouge” in 1908. After an eclipse between the 30s and the mid-70s, its production resumed as soon as André Mentzelopoulos arrived in 1977 and, at first, greatly increased to improve the quality of the first wine. From the mid-90s, the creation of a third wine allowed, in turn, to practice a selection increasingly rigorous for the Pavillon Rouge. Nowadays, a third of the harvest goes into the first wine, barely 30% in the Pavillon Rouge and the rest is divided between the third and fourth wine.
The quality of Pavillon Rouge is much closer to that of the first wine because the parcels that compose it all participated, not so long ago, in the assembly of Château Margaux. Of course, it does not have the same complexity nor the same depth but the aromas are similar and the balance in the mouth proceeds from the same subtle dosage of power and sweetness. It is usually ready to drink a little earlier while having excellent aging potential well beyond 30 or 40 years.
