Quinta de la Rosa - DouRosa Tinto 2017
Quinta de la Rosa is a small family-owned vineyard situated in Northern Portugal on the banks of the river Douro. The estate produce high-quality ports, wines and olive oil. Since 1906, Quinta de La Rosa has slowly expanded and now consists of 55 hectares of land planted to vines. Quinta de la Rosa is run by Sophia Bergqvist and is assisted by her brother (Philip) and Jorge Moreira, La Rosa's winemaker. Jorge is supported by viticulturalist, Nuno Barros and assistant winemaker, Hugo Rodrigues. As Sophia is often on the road selling La Rosa's products, team work and loyalty is vital. Many have worked at La Rosa for more than 10 years and Nelson Gonçalves (bottling line) is fourth generation to work at La Rosa. His father, Salvador, is in charge of making the blends. Quinta de la Rosa has recently gone through a complete refurbishment of all its wine and port making facilities. This project had been in the design phase for over 7 years, construction finally started in December 2011 and was completed in August 2012, one week before the harvest started. They are firmly committed to sustainable farming practices in order to protect the environment and ensure the longevity of wine and port production in the Douro Valley. The vineyards are certified as sustainable by ADVID, an organisation which promotes and develops an integrated approach to wine growing in the Douro Valley.
DouRosa Red is a blend of Touriga Nacional (52%) with the remaining amounts of other mixed varieties (Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, Tinto Cão). The wine is fermented in stainless steel vats at low temperature to retain fruit and freshness. It was bottled in April 2019. The 2017 vintage, with the high temperatures during the summer, resulted in wines a little denser and concentrated than normal. Despite this the DouRosa Red continues to be a wine marked by its versatility; it can be drunk slightly chilled accompanied with lighter style food or at higher temperature with heavier dishes.
Grape varieties: 52% Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, Tinto Cão
