Domaine Vincent DELAPORTE - Les Monts Damnés 2018
Domaine Delaporte is located in the Loire Valley, in the Sancerre appellation in the heart of the village of Chavignol. It is a family-owned estate, passed down from father to son since the 17th century. Since 2010, it is Matthieu Delaporte, Vincent’s grandson who manages the estate and he has undertaken major restructuring: tillage without herbicides, lower yields, vinification in barrels. To make these changes a reality, the estate is embarking on the conversion process to organic farming from 2020. The production wines are exclusively harvested from the 33 hectares of the property, which are planted with 75% Sauvignon Blanc, and for the rest of Pinot Noir.
The Monts Damnée Hill is a very uneven and sharp plot of Chavignol, facing south/southeast, with a Kimmeridgian marl soil (combination of clay and seashell). It is one of the most reputed slope of the Sancerre appellation. The whole bunches of Sauvignon Blanc are put into the hydrolical press (Coquard), where the pressing is done in a gentle and slow manner in order to obtain a clear juice of the highest quality. This juice is then put into barrels of 600-litres for 12 months, during which it will undergo fermentation and a period of resting on lees.
Grape variety: 100% Sauvignon Blanc
