TRIMBACH - Clos Saint Hune 2016
Domaine Trimbach is located in Ribeauvillé, Alsace. It is one of the oldest vineyards in this French wine region, dating back to 1626. The House has been in the Trimbach family for centuries, but it wasn't until 1898, when Frédéric Emile Trimbach received the highest honor for his wines at the Brussels International Wine Fair, that Maison Trimbach started to gain attention and build its reputation. Today, the estate is managed by the 12th and 13th generations of the family: Hubert Trimbach, his daughter Anne and his nephews Jean and Pierre. The estate, now known as F.E. Trimbach, has plots in several vineyards classified as Grands Crus, but one of the most famous is that of the Clos Sainte Hune vineyard. The Trimbach family uses integrated and sustainable winegrowing/making practices, and is in the process of being certified as organic.
The grapes are harvested exclusively by hand and are then delicately pressed. Old wooden barrels sit alongside stainless steel vats, then the wines are bottled in the spring following the harvest to ensure freshness and fruitiness. After bottling, the wines are marketed according to their maturity. Some will not leave the cellars until they have spent five or seven years patiently aging in the bottle.
Clos Sainte Hune is a product from the Rosacker vineyard, located in the village of Hunawihr. This plot, which covers 1.67 hectares, is exposed to the south/south-east and the vines are on average 50 years old on a predominantly limestone subsoil. These factors give this Riesling a unique flavour of remarkable fruity concentration, enhanced by a refined touch of minerality on the finish. The low annual production of 8,000 bottles on average makes this wine an extremely rare and highly sought-after Riesling. The wine has an exceptional aging potential because it can age seven to ten years after bottling without even reaching its peak.
Grape variety: 100% Riesling
