Château SMITH HAUT LAFITTE - Le Petit Haut Lafitte - Blanc 2018
Château Smith Haut Lafitte is located in Pessac-Léognan on the Left Bank of the Bordeaux region. It was classified Grand Cru Classé in the 1959 Graves classification. Grapes have been cultivated on the site since 1365. In the 18th century, the owner was George Smith, a Scottish wine merchant who built the manor house on the Pessac-Léognan site. In 1958, it was bought by the Louis Eschenauer company, which invested in the cellar and its vineyards. Since 1990, the property has been owned by Florence and Daniel Cathiard, also owners of Caudalie beauty products. A Spa, Les Sources de Caudalie, has been installed on the property. The 78-hectare vineyard is cultivated organically certified since 2019, biodiversity efforts include the establishment of beehives around the estate, the estate has its own nursery and produces its own compost.
The Petit Haut Lafitte Blanc comes from the young vines of Château Smith Haut Lafitte. It is a blend of Sauvignon Blanc (80%) and Sémillon (20%). After the manual harvest, fermentation takes place in French oak barrels, 50% of which are new, after a static cold settling. Aging lasts 10 months, on lees, with batonnage in barrels (again with 50% new oak), made in the property's cooperage.
