Domaine Naudin-Ferrand (Claire Naudin) - Orchis Mascula 2018
Domaine Naudin-Ferrand is located in Magny-les-Villers, in the Côte de Nuits in Burgundy. Claire Naudin took over the estate in 1994. A follower of sustainable viticulture and integrated production, she refuses standardisation and prefers an artisanal approach to sustainable viticulture, with minimal intervention but without certification for organic or biodynamic agriculture. The estate covers around 22 hectares of vines, with a few wines such as Echezeaux, Aloxe, Ladoix, Nuit-Saint-Georges and the rest in regional appellations.
Orchis Mascula is part of Claire Naudin’s series “Flower”. This Pinot Noir comes from 3 plots: En Foigery, En Bully and La Grande Corvée de Bully, from vines averaging 30 years-old. Hand-harvested, the grapes are vinified whole-cluster with no pumping over. The free-run juice is blended with the press wine after a 2-weeks maceration. The wine is aged in 228-litres barrels, with a small proportion of new oak, for 18 to 20 months. Sulfur is only used at bottling.
Grape variety: 100% Pinot Noir
