Domaine ABBATUCCI - Faustine Rouge 2019
Located South of Corsica, in the heart of the Taravo Valley and at an altitude of about 100 meters, Domaine Abbatucci is one of the oldest vineyards on the island. Composed mainly of iconic varieties such as Vermentino, Sciacarello or Nielluccio, the 20-hectare estate is home to a unique collection of 18 varieties of endemic varieties that contribute to the preservation of the island’s wine heritage. The vineyard and vinification techniques are in line with the principles of biodynamics since 2000, with, among other things, only manual harvesting and the use of indigenous yeasts.
Faustine Rouge is a blend of Sciaccarello and Nielluccio grown on granite arenas facing north and northwest. Jean-Charles Abbatucci works in biodynamy with an influence of phytotherapy practices: horse plowing and management of winter weeding with his flock of sheep. The grapes harvested by hand are then meticulously sorted and received by gravity. Vinification is done in concrete vats and tuns. The maceration lasts several weeks with an alternation of pressing down and pumping over. Aging lasts 6 months on fine lees. It is to be enjoyed slightly chilled.
