Luis Seabra - Indie Xisto Tinto 2018
Luis Seabra Vinhos is located in the Douro and Dão, in Portugal. Luis Seabra made his name as winemaker for Niepoort, before leaving to set up his own project in 2013 after having decided that he no longer wanted to make wines following someone else’s tastes and specifications. Most of the vineyards are located between the southern part of the Douro Superior in eastern Douro near the Spanish border and the Cima Corgo at the heart of the Douro. The Cima Corgo is a subregion that experiences an extreme diurnal shift. The vines are very old, with some exceeding 100 years in age and the soil is primarily schist (xisto). Winemaking is low intervention, with natural yeast ferments.
Xisto Indie is made from an 80-year-old vineyard in Alijo. It is fermented in the traditionnal "lagar" used for Porto winemaking, and then spends 22 months in 500-litre barrels.
