Domaine Jean Claude Ramonet - Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru Morgeot 2018
Domaine Ramonet is located in Chassagne-Montrachet, in the Côte de Beaune of Burgundy. Pierre Ramonet began buying land on the Montrachet hill in the 1930s and, by the 1950s, owned land in several Premier and Grand Cru vineyards. In the 1970s, he acquired a piece of the famed Le Montrachet site, and now Ramonet owns more than 15 hectares of vineyards, making wines ranging from village-level to Grand and Premier Cru. Following the death of their father Pierre in the mid-1990s, brothers Noël and Jean-Claude Ramonet took over the estate. Today, the two brothers have separated by mutual agreement. Noël just wants to work his vines and deliver his grapes to his brother Jean-Claude who will be in charge of winemaking and marketing. The wines now have two labels: that of Domaine Ramonet and that of the Jean-Claude Ramonet négoce.
Old vines and low yields are the cornerstones of Ramonet's viticultural philosophy. After traditional fermentation, the white wines are kept on lees for an extended period, with bâtonnage happening much less frequently than usual. Both red and white wines are aged in 33% new oak.
Grape variety: 100% Chardonnay
