Domaine Joseph Chamonard - Fleurie - Droit de Véto 2019
Domaine Joseph Chamonard is a small exploitation located in the heart of Beaujolais and managed by Geneviève and Jean-Claude Chanudet (known as "Le Chat": “The Cat”). The estate has been established in the appellations of Morgon and Fleurie since the 18th century, and the age of the vines is between 60 and 90 years old. The terroir is composed of pink granite, decomposed rocks and friable schists, exposed to the South. The Morgon plots (Les Chênes, Corcelette, Les Grands Cras and le Colombier) are located in the commune of Villié-Morgon. Domaine Chamonard also cultivates half a hectare of vines on the most beautiful hill of Fleurie, 400 meters above sea level.
The vines are cultivated organically, in accordance with respect for the environment: without chemicals, by manual harvest with light tillage of the soil. In the cellars, only indigenous yeasts are used during fermentation and human intervention is minimal, in the same vein as natural wines.
Droit de Véto is a cuvée from Domaine Chamonard vinified by Jeanne Chanudet, the daughter of Jean-Claude Chanudet. After obtaining her veterinary degree, she finally decided to return to the family business and acquire 4 hectares of vines on the Morgon vineyard, adding to the existing 4 hectares around Corcelette and another in Fleurie. Like his father, the work in the vineyard is always done without chemicals, by manual harvesting, and with light ploughing of the soil. At the winery, only native yeasts are used for fermentation and intervention is minimal. This cuvée is made from vines from the plot located in Fleurie.
