Badenhorst Family Wines - Secateur Blanc - Chenin 2021
Badenhorst Family Wines is located in the Swartland region of South Africa . The vines are grown on 180 hectares in the Siebritskloof part of the Paardeberg mountain. The property, located on the Kalmoesfontein farm, is owned by Hein and Adi Badenhorst , originally from Constantia. Their grandfather was the manager of Groot Constantia for 46 years. After completing his studies in Elsenburg, Adi worked at Château Angélus in Bordeaux and with Alain Graillot in the northern Rhône in France and Wither Hills in New Zealand. He made stays in local wineries: Simonsig, Steenberg, Groote Post and 9 years as a winemaker at Domaine Rustenberg in Stellenbosch. In 2008, he bought 60 hectares of land in the Paardeberg with his cousin Hein. Today they proudly farm together, practice organic farming and make natural wines in the traditional way.
Secateurs Chenin comes from vines planted between the end of the 1960s and the middle of the 1970s. These old vines are cultivated without irrigation on a granite soil. The harvest is harvested manually, refrigerated overnight and then pressed into whole bunches. The plots are harvested over 12 days, so fresh juice is added to the juice that is already fermenting in the vats, which extends the fermentation to about twenty days in total. A quarter is fermented in old barrels and tuns . The wine is aged on the lees for 7 months .
Grape variety: 100% Chenin Blanc
