Chris Ringland - North Barossa - Shiraz 2017
Chris Ringland Wines is located in the Barossa Valley in South Australia . In 1994, Chris Ringland discovered a 2-hectare block of very old, neglected Shiraz vines on a steep hillside. Under the advice of Robert O'Callaghan of the famous Rockford Wines, Chris Ringland buys the Stone Chimney Creek vineyard and begins a long renovation that will take almost 10 years. It produces Shiraz-based wines from its own Barossa vineyard and those managed by North Barossa Vintners. Chris Ringland is also involved in the development of RBJ Grenache/Mourvèdre with Adrian Hoffmann, Rolf Binder and Russell Johnstone, and Solita Nebbiolo with wine journalist Nick Stock. He is also a consultant to two Spanish producers: Bodegas Alto Moncayo in Campo de Borja and Bodegas El Nido in Jumilla.
North Barossa Shiraz is made from Shiraz sourced from 12 growers around the Ebenezer sub-region in North Barossa. Neighbors, friends and relatives of the Hoffmann family are part of the group, many of whom have worked the land for three or more generations. The wine is aged for 45 months in new oak barrels (20%) and in old barrels at least 4 years old.
Grape variety: 100% Shiraz
