Domaine Jacques Frédéric Mugnier - Nuits Saint Georges 1er Cru - Clos de la Maréchale White 2020
Domaine Jacques-Frédéric Mugnier is located in Chambolle-Musigny , in Burgundy . The estate was founded in 1863 by Frédéric Mugnier , an alcoholic from Dijon. In 1950, following the economic crisis and the world war, Jacques-Frédéric Mugnier, great-grandson of the first Frédéric, chose to sell the spirits business and rent the vineyard to a merchant in Nuits-Saint-Georges. The Chambolle vineyard contract ended in 1978 and 6 years later, Frédéric Mugnier, son of Jacques-Frédéric, assumed full responsibility for the family estate. The latest addition to the estate was the return of Clos de la Maréchale to the estate in 2004, radically altering its size and allowing for a new and better organization. Today, around Jocelyne and Frédéric Mugnier , the permanent team of the Domaine is attentive to every detail in order to bring from the vine to the cellar the best of nature, with minimal interference from technological practices.
Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Clos de la Maréchale Blanc is made from Chardonnay . The tradition of a Clos de la Maréchale Blanc was forgotten for nearly 50 years, but several exceptional old bottles, found buried in the cellar, convinced them to revive this rare wine from the 2015 vintage. In order to recreate from the outset a plantation of Chardonnay capable of producing quality adult vine material, they applied a technique rarely used in Burgundy, top- grafting . This technique consists of keeping the old vine (previously grafted onto pinot noir) and inserting a bud of Chardonnay under the bark of its trunk which, over the following weeks, will merge with the wood of the old vine, will feed on its sap and will develop, giving fruit the following year.
Grape variety: 100% Chardonnay
