Viu Manent - Secret Sauvignon Blanc 2020
Viu Manent is located in the Valle de Colchagua , in the southernmost part of the Rappel Valley in Chile . The company was founded in 1935 when Miguel Viu Garcia , a Catalan immigrant, and his two sons created Bodegas Viu in Santiago de Chile, a company dedicated to the trade and packaging of wines for the local market under the brand "Vinos Viu ". In 1966, Miguel Viu Manent dreamed of making his own wines, which came to fruition when he acquired Hacienda San Carlos de Cunaco in Colchagua. This ancient and traditional vineyard had 150 hectares of ancient and noble pre-phylloxera French vineyards, in addition to its cellar and its manor house. Today, Viu Manent has 254 hectares of own vineyards divided into plots: San Carlos, in the sub-appellation of Santa Cruz, as well as La Capilla and El Olivar, both in the sub-appellation of Peralillo.
The Secret range is devoted to varieties that are little known in this region, producing aromatic and fresh wines. The name refers to the carefully guarded secret blend by the winemaker that makes up 15% of each wine. Viu Manent commissioned the Chilean artist Catalina Abbott to create her labels.
Sauvignon Blanc is made from grapes from two vineyards in the Casablanca Valley. The grapes are de-stemmed then macerated on the skin for 6 to 8 hours. After pressing, vinification is carried out in stainless steel vats . The wine is aged for 6 months on fine lees .
