Avignonesi - Grifi 2020
Avignonesi is located in the Montepulciano region of southern Tuscany , Italy . The estate was established in 1974 and is named after the estate's original founders, the Avignonesi family. Bought by Virginie Saverys (born in Belgium) in 2009, it grew and at the same time became a leader in biodynamic viticulture in Italy. To date, the estate has expanded to 170 hectares of vines, including the purchase of a state-of-the-art winemaking facility in the Montepulciano appellation. Avignonesi has nine vineyards: eight in Montepulciano and one in the small town of Cortona, northeast of Montepulciano. The rolling hills and varying soil types in the various vineyards mean that winemaker Matteo Giustiniani has a wide range of grapes he can select to craft the wines. Avignonesi is recognized for its innovative research, experimentation and the quality of its wines, including the prestigious Vin Santo. The estate also produces olive oil and Grappa.
Grifi 2020 is a blend of Sangiovese (50%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (50%) . The two varieties are fermented separately in stainless steel tanks with the use of native yeasts. Alcoholic fermentation and skin maceration lasted 25 to 30 days depending on the wine batches. Aging lasted 24 months in oak barrels and barrels .
Grape varieties: 50% Sangiovese, 50% Cabernet Sauvignon
