Château du Retout - Le Retout Blanc 2018
Château du Retout is located in the Haut-Médoc of the Bordeaux wine region. The property covers 34 hectares including 1.5 hectares of white grape varieties. Planted with Merlot Noir in 1970, the 1.5 hectares were regrafted in 2009 with original white grape varieties, unknown in the region and sometimes coming from very remote terroirs: Sauvignon Gris, Savagnin, Gros Manseng and Mondeuse Blanche. The Château du Retout vineyard is worked with as little human intervention as possible.
The Blanc is a blend of Sauvignon Gris (41%), Gros Manseng (39%), Mondeuse Blanche (10%) and Savagnin (10%) . They are harvested separately and manually at optimal maturity. The grapes are put into direct pressing then the juice is transferred to French oak barrels and amphorae for alcoholic fermentation which lasts 2 to 4 weeks. Each grape variety is vinified separately. The wine is aged on lees with stirring.
Grape varieties: 41% Sauvignon Gris, 39% Gros Manseng, 10% Mondeuse Blanche, 10% Savagnin
