After the harvest, the grapes are sorted and selected in the cellar, before being delicately pressed. The juice flows by gravity into the cellar. Fermentation takes place with indigenous yeasts. The wines are aged in the vaulted cellar built in 1829, in 80 wooden barrels. The oldest of these barrels dates from 1890 and each barrel contains the harvest from a single plot of the vineyard.
The Morstein site is a south-facing slope rising on a high plateau 280 meters above sea level and was the first Westhofen vineyard to be officially mentioned in 1282. VDP.GROSSE LAGE® is the designation of the highest quality vineyards in Rheinhessen, sites precisely demarcated by plot. The best wines are grown here, with expressive vineyard character and particular potential for aging. Morstein GG is made with hand-harvested and fully destemmed Riesling . The grapes undergo a short skin maceration before fermentation in tuns .
Grape variety: 100% Riesling
