Director's Cut Zinfandel is made from Zinfandel, Petite Sirah, Cabernet Sauvignon and other grape varieties . There are two techniques for growing Zinfandel in the Dry Creek Valley. One consists of traditional agricultural practices and includes dry farming of mature goblet-pruned vines and severely thinning in spring to produce low yields. The other method uses bilateral cord pruning, wire trellising, drip irrigation and carefully maintained canopies. The Francis Ford Coppola Winery sources its Zinfandel from vineyards grown in both ways. The wine is aged for 15 months entirely in oak barrels, with 30% new French oak and 10% American oak . With its unique wraparound label designed after a Zoetrope tape, one of the earliest moving picture devices, each Director's Cut label is a replica of a tape from Francis' personal Zoetrope collection.
