Kanonkop - Kadette Cape Blend 2021
Kanonkop Wines is located in Stellenbosch , South Africa . The name Kanonkop is derived from a mound (kop) on Simonsberg Mountain above the wine estate from which, during the 17th and 18th centuries, a cannon (kanon ) was fired to announce the arrival of sailing ships entering Table Bay. The first Kanonkop labeled wines were produced in 1973. The estate has been a family property for 4 generations, now managed by brothers Paul and Johann Krige . The targeted, site-specific winemaking approach has been at the heart of the estate since the first vintage. All Kanonkop wines are certified by Sustainable Wine South Africa (SWSA).
In the mid-1980s, Kanonkop experienced an ever-increasing demand for its estate wines. This led to new plantings of Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinotage. It was Jannie Krige who came up with the idea of creating a second label under the name of Kadette.
The 2021 Kadette Cape Blend is a blend of Pinotage (39%), Cabernet Sauvignon (30%), Merlot (27%), Cabernet Franc (3%) and Petit Verdot (1%) . Fermentation took place in fermenters open in concrete. After malolactic fermentation, the wine is aged for 12 months in 225-litre French oak barrels from Nièvre liters of 2nd and 3rd filling.
