RHUM CLEMENT - White Rum - Blue Cane - Vintage 2024 - 50%
Habitation Clément is located in Le François , Martinique . The rum distillery was established by Homère Clément in 1887 when he purchased an estate at the height of the sugar crisis. At the time, Homère Clément was a very popular member of the Martinique community and the mayor of Le François. He purchased the prestigious sugar plantation known as Domaine de l'Acajou . This 43-acre estate was considered one of the best sugar plantations on the island of Martinique. But because it was caught in a poor and stagnant sugar economy, it was unfortunately forced into bankruptcy. Homère Clément made the necessary investments and transformed one of the island's most prestigious sugar plantations into a world-class producer of Rhum Agricole. He brought the planters back into the fields to harvest the sugarcane again, but not to refine the sugar. His idea was to press the sugarcane grown on his quality estate to extract aromatic and flavorful first-pressed sugarcane juice to distill pure rum. Inspired by the great eaux-de-vie he discovered while studying in Paris as a youth, Homère imitated the distillers of the great Armagnacs of southwest France to perfect his method of producing rum, now known as Rhum Agricole. Upon the death of his son Charles Clément, the house was bought by George-Louis and Jean-José Clément, then by GBH in 1986, who still owns it today. The distillery is now closed and converted into a museum; Clément rum is distilled at the Distillerie du Simon located in Le François, a few kilometers away, and then refined in the Clément cellars.
This limited edition of Clément White Rum is made from Blue Cane harvested in 2024 .
