DOMAINE PIERRE CROS - Le Barthas 2018
Former rugby player, Pierre Cros is known as the "king of concentration" - so, unsurprisingly, his wines are powerful and entirely superb! Some of his vines were planted in 1905. Today, the Domaine Pierre Cros covers about fifty hectares, but only half is planted with vines. The other part consists of scrubland of course, but also almond trees, olive trees and truffle oaks. Pierre Cros produces Languedoc wines on the terroir of Minervois. Intense lover of the varietals, he has been able to rehabilitate old and old-fashioned plots of Carignan Noir, Piquepoul Noir, Alicante and Aramon as well as Nebbiolo, the spearhead of Italian Piedmont and Touriga Nacional wines, which can be found in Portugal for the development of the red Port.
Barthas is a blend of Syrah (75%) and Mourvèdre (25%). This wine was called "Entre la Vigne et la Mer" until the 2017 vintage. Vinification and aging is done in wooden foudres.
