Glaetzer - Anaperenna  2019

Glaetzer Wines is located in Tanunda, in the Barossa Valley, in South Australia. In 1995 Colin Glaetzer, along with wife Judith and their three sons, established Glaetzer Wines allowing the production of boutique super-premium wines under a family-owned label. Winemaker Colin Glaetzer has been referred to as the maker of some of the finest Barossa Valley wines. After completing an agriculture degree in 1968 and an oenology degree in 1970 both from Roseworthy College, Colin gained wide and diverse winemaking experience overseas and in many of Australia's noted wine regions. Today, his son Ben Glaetzer is managing the family-company. All fruit for Glaetzer Wines is taken from the small sub-region of the northern Barossa Valley, called Ebenezer. Exceptional fruit from a loyal group of third and fourth generation Barossa grape growers is the backbone of Glaetzer wines.

The wines are made with minimal intervention. A specific neutral strain of yeast is used for the all ferments. All pump-over regimes are dependent on the initial flavour of the fruit but generally they pump over twice daily and chill if required. After an extended period of time on skins, the wine is then pressed and transferred to French and American hogshead barrels to undergo the malolactic fermentation. It is racked and matured for a further 12 to 18 months, depending on the vintage.

The name Anaperenna has been inspired by Anna Perenna, the Roman goddess of the New Year. Romans honoured Anna Perenna with a festival held on the first full moon of the Roman calendar. On March 15th they would ask Anna to grant them longevity, and a healthy year for each glass of wine they drank on that day. Anaperenna 2019 is a blend of Shiraz (84%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (16%). It was matured for 16 months in new oak hogshead barrels (92% French and 8% American). This vintage will develop beautifully through to 2040.
