Château DE SALES 1995
Château de Sales is located in the Pomerol appellation, on the right bank of Bordeaux. With 47.60 hectares of vines out of the 90 hectares of the estate, the estate has the largest vineyard in the AOC Pomerol. The property has belonged to the de Lambert family for more than five centuries. Since 2017, the production methods have been evolving, under the impetus of the Managing Director, Vincent Montigaud (previously with Baron Philippe de Rothschild for 23 years, including 16 years at the head of Domaine de Baronarques) and the Technical Director, Frédéric Laborde. They are supported in their choices by Jean-Claude Berrouet, consultant oenologist, and Gilles Rey, wine consultant.
Château de Sales is a blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc . The wine is aged in barrels for 12 months, of which 15 to 20% are new. The 1995 vintage is widely recognized as an excellent year. Winter and spring were mild, although the rain in the spring was crucial in rebalancing the water table, and flowering was uninterrupted. The summer was so hot and dry that it broke records. September brought rains which hampered the Merlot and forced the Cabernet Sauvignon to be harvested early. Harvesting began in late September under dry, sunny conditions and the resulting harvest was bountiful and healthy.
