SINE QUA NON - Aperta - Central Coast White Blend 2018
Sine Qua Non is located in California , just north of Los Angeles in Ventura County , with several vineyards in Santa Barbara while the main vineyard and winery are based in Oak View . The first vintage of Sine Qua Non dates back to 1994, when Austrian-born winemaker Manfred Krankl released three Syrah barrels named “Queen of Spades” with a label he designed himself. Krankl sent a bottle to Robert Parker, who quickly gave the wine 95 points. The brand run by Manfred Krankl and his wife Elaine has become cult since its beginnings; small volumes mean demand consistently outstrips supply.
Aperta is a blend of Chardonnay (38%), Viognier (25%), Roussanne (22%), Muscat (9%) and Petit Manseng (6%) . The grapes come from four vineyards; Eleven Confessions (49%), Bien Nacido (30%), The Third Twin Estate Vineyard (11%) and Cumulus (10%). The wine is aged for 24 months in a combination of barrels: 21% in barrels of 2 to 4 wines , and 79% in new French oak barrels , 60% of which are in tuns.
Grapes: 38% Chardonnay, 25% Viognier, 22% Roussanne, 9% Muscat, 6% Petit Manseng
